For the last three years, students at Ohio State University have pushed their school to end a lease with fast food giant Wendy's. In May, university officials emailed a student group to tell them that, despite opposition, they had renewed the lease for another three years.

A group of about 20 Ohio State students will begin a week-long fast on Monday to show solidarity with farm workers. They say the university went back on its word by extending their lease with Dublin-based Wendy's, which is one of the few major fast food chains that's held out of joining a national program that works to prevent abuse of U.S. farm workers.

A man has been killed and a 17-year-old wounded in a shooting in the parking lot of a Wendy's on West Broad Street in Columbus.

The shooting happened Tuesday evening in the Franklinton neighborhood.

Students Want To Kick Wendy's Off The OSU Campus

Relations between students and Wendy's are getting a little frosty at The Ohio State University.

Members of the Student/Farmworker Alliance held a rally Friday afternoon with agricultural workers, demanding that OSU does not renew a contract with Wendy's.


Wendy's says hackers stole customers' credit and debit card information at 1,025 of its restaurants in the United States last year. That number is far bigger than earlier estimates.

Wendy's Shareholders Met By Protestors

Shareholders arriving for the annual meeting at Wendy’s headquarters in Dublin Thursday were met by picketers. The protesters want Wendy’s to exert more pressure on suppliers to provide better working conditions for farm laborers.

Wendy's is hoping its rollout of a pretzel bun will boost profits. The Associated Press reported in January that the fast-food chain was testing the "Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger" in select locations. Then an analyst for Janney Montgomery Scott recently noted that executives said the burger would be rolled out nationally this year as a promotional item. That has sparked plenty of online chatter, mostly positive. But the concoction wasn't created just to please taste buds.

Wendy's 3rd-quarter loss widens

Wendy's today reported more losses for its most recent quarter. The latest earnings report comes after Wendy's sold the struggling Arby's chain earlier this year and moved its headquarters back to Central Ohio. But, third quarter losses widened, in part, because of costs related to the sale of Arby's. The restaurant sector of the economy faces higher costs for ingredients and cautious consumers. But, Wendy's spokesman Bob Bertini says for the first time since 2003 Wendy's drew more customers to its restaurants after it made some menu changes.

Arby's Owner to Buy Wendy's

Since the death of founder Dave Thomas in 2002, Dublin-based Wendy's has been in a slump. Thursday the owner of Arby's, Triac Companies, announced it is buying the nation's number three hamburger chain. WOSU spoke with a food service expert to find out what this means for the company.

Triarc Companies saids it's buying Wendy's in an all-stock deal. Triarc, run by billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, has been trying to purchase the under-performing hamburger chain for about two years.
