A singular cause is difficult to suss out, but most agree that stress and anxiety are contributing factors.

Some prescription stimulants intended to treat attention deficit disorder, have a history of misuse by people who are seeking a “brain boost.”

The problem has been acute among young college students. 

A new study out of the University of California suggests that nonmedical use of stimulants brings with it negatives than positives.

In February 2009, Samantha Pierce became pregnant with twins. It was a time when things were going really well in her life.

She and her husband had recently gotten married. They had good jobs.

"I was a kick-ass community organizer," says Pierce, who is African-American and lives in Cleveland. She worked for a nonprofit that fought against predatory lending. The organization was growing, and Pierce had been promoted to management.

It's difficult to have a teenager's mind. The brain develops rapidly during the adolescent years, which partially explains why teens experience anger, sadness and frustration so intensely.

We all experience stress at work, no matter the job. But for teachers, the work seems to be getting harder and the stress harder to shake.
