Ohio's top law enforcement officer pledges $3-million to combat campus sexual assaults.  The money will be used for competitive grants to allow universities to strengthen advocacy programs for survivors of rape, including training for campus police.

An Ohio National Guardsman convicted of sexually abusing three adopted daughters has been sentenced to life without parole.

Judge David Faulkner announced the sentence Wednesday in Union County Court and said Jean Paul Kruse must also register as a sex offender.

Kruse was convicted last month of 15 counts including rape and sexual battery. He was accused of abusing girls who were younger than 13.

The charges were brought several years after he'd told a military publication that he wanted to adopt a girl from Africa to protect her from rape.

Sexual Assault on College Campuses

There's been a recent flurry of legislation aimed at addressing sexual assault on campuses. More than 60 U.S. colleges face federal investigations for possible mishandling of sexual violence complaints, and 40 percent of schools haven't conducted a sexual assault investigation in the past 5 years. This hour we'll get an update on actions to combat sexual violence among students.


Penn State has fired legendary football coach Joe  Paterno for not telling police about an assistant coach's  alleged sexual assault of a boy. Many believe Penn State should allow Paterno to coach until the end of the season. Did Penn State do the right thing ?

Last year, the Center for Public Integrity found that 1 in 5 college women will be sexually assaulted during college, and that when sexual assaults do occur, universities consistently fail to properly investigate the cases. Last week, Vice President Joe Biden announced that new federal guidelines will spell out how colleges and universities must respond to allegations of sexual assault. Today, we take a closer look at the problem.
