Ohio's more than 600 school districts are waiting for the Department of Education to release its COVID-19 guidance on how to operate in the new school year. But with the first day of classes less than two months away, many districts are already making their own plans.

Following a breakdown in contract negotiations, Reynoldsburg school teachers say they will strike. The Reynoldsburg Education Association issued a ten-day strike notice which begins a countdown toward a work stoppage September 19th.

Contentious teacher contract talks in Reynoldsburg attracts attention beyond the district. About 500 people attended a Reynoldsburg school board meeting Tuesday night to protest the latest contract proposal that ties raises to teachers' ratings in the state's new evaluation system. The crowd included teachers' union members from around central Ohio and as far away as Dayton. The Reynoldsburg proposal includes eliminating teachers' scheduled raises and their health-care plan.
