A former junior colleague of Matt Lauer's has accused him of raping her in his hotel room during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. In her first public comments about the incident — told to journalist Ronan Farrow for his forthcoming book, Catch and Kill — Brooke Nevils said the former Today show host forced anal sex on her without her consent in his hotel room.

The Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office plans to use open source genealogical databases to help identify “stranger rapists” — people who’ve been indicted as John Does for sexual assault but haven’t been identified.

The prosecutor’s office indicts the DNA profile collected from a rape kit to ensure the statute of limitations doesn’t expire. 

There are more than 130 open rape cases in Cuyahoga County and prosecutors plan to start tackling them by trying to identify the assailants with help from DNA-based genealogy databases, said Special Investigations Chief Rick Bell.

Sexual assault cases that have gone unsolved in Akron will receive more attention thanks to a nearly $2 million grant.

The funding supports the Akron Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, a collaborative effort meant to provide the resources and training needed to better handle assault cases.

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh says the grant will allow her office to review cases and charge people more quickly.

More than 3 million women experienced rape as their first sexual encounter, according to a new study, which surveyed women ages 18 to 44 in the U.S. The study, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, found that most respondents were adolescents when they were raped. It also found that these women were more likely to suffer worse long-term health outcomes than women who had sex voluntarily the first time.

A Cincinnati priest has been indicted on nine counts of rape. A grand jury returned the charges against Fr. Geoff Drew on Monday.

Gov. Mike DeWine is urging state lawmakers to end the time limit on criminal charges for rape and sexual assault, which Democrats have been proposing for years. The leader of the Ohio House says there’s a chance that will happen.

Opponents of abortion rights have a long history of supporting abortion bans with three major exceptions: when the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest, or when a woman's life is at risk.

But fueled by momentum from the passage of a restrictive abortion law in Alabama, a coalition of anti-abortion-rights groups released a letter Wednesday asking Republican officials to "reconsider decades-old talking points" on exceptions to such laws.

The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center "wholeheartedly" supports a proposal from Governor Mike DeWine to lift the statute of limitations for rape and other sex crimes. Ohio allows someone to be charged for rape within 25 years of committing the crime. 

The governor made the proposal Monday following the release of a report detailing sexual abuse of male students by a former Ohio State University sports doctor from 1978 to 1998.
