Gov. Mike DeWine unveils 17-point plan to reduce gun violence.
Ohio Governor Office

In this week's episode of Snollygoster, Ohio's politics podcast from WOSU, hosts Mike Thompson and Steve Brown talk about Gov. Mike DeWine's proposed gun laws. Depending on who you ask, DeWine's proposals either don't do enough or do too much. Ann Fisher, host of All Sides with Ann Fisher on 89.7 NPR News, joins the show.

Cleveland Cavaliers TV play-by-play broadcaster Fred McLeod passed away Monday night, according to a statement from the team Tuesday.

He was 67 years old. No cause of death has been released.

This month’s cover of Sports Illustrated features Cleveland native Rich Paul with the caption “The King Maker.” Paul has been LeBron James’ longtime agent and has become the elite contract negotiator for the NBA’s biggest stars.

WKSU sports commentator Terry Pluto said it all began in 2002, when Paul was selling jerseys out of his car, and he met a 17-year-old James at the Akron-Canton airport.

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced they've hired Lindsay Gottlieb to join new head coach John Beilein's staff.

Gottlieb spent eight seasons as head coach of the University of California, Berkeley women's team, where she led them to seven NCAA Tournament appearances and a Final Four. The 41-year-old compiled a 179-89 record with the Golden Bears.

For the fifth time since 2013, the Cavs are looking for a new head coach after parting ways last week with Larry Drew. WKSU sports commentator Terry Pluto said it is hard to predict what team owner Dan Gilbert might want in his next coach.

Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman praised former coach Larry Drew, provided a bit more information on his departure, and said his front office team will begin whittling down a list of head coaching candidates Friday afternoon.

To start the Friday press conference, Altman said he wanted to pile on the complimentary release the team sent out Thursday on Drew's parting.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says it's a good time to be an NBA owner. Forbes reports the average team is worth $1.9 billion, up 13% over last year and three times the level of five years ago.

The Cavs, however, were the only team to lose value over the last year, down about $50 million to $1.2 billion. The New York Knicks top the league at $4 billion.

The View From Pluto: LeBron Leaves With His Legacy Intact

Jul 4, 2018

Emotions have been running the gamut among Cavs fans since LeBron James announced he’s leaving Cleveland for the L.A. Lakers. But our sports commentator Terry Pluto says despite some of the anger and sadness, James’ legacy is intact.

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James is leaving his hometown team once again.

The four-time NBA most valuable player has signed a four-year, $154 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Quicken Loans Arena is in the middle of a $140 million renovation, about half financed by the public. The Cavaliers wanted to update the Q for the future—but now that future won’t include the star who carried the team to multiple NBA Finals.

LeBron James is leaving home for Los Angeles. James announced last night that he has agreed to a 4-year, $154 million contract with the Lakers. His management agency Klutch Sports Group announced the deal with a simple short release.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says he has been preparing for James' decision for quite sometime.

LeBron James is leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for a 4-year, $154 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

His agency Klutch Sports Group announced the move in a release on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the NBA's free agency market opened.

For the second time in his 15-year career, James will part with his home state team. In 2010, the free agent bolted to the Miami Heat to win two titles over four years, before returning to Cleveland.

LeBron James made the first move. Decision 3.0 is officially under way.

James told the Cleveland Cavaliers that he is not exercising his $35.6 million contract option for next season and will hit the free-agent market, two people familiar with the decision told the Associated Press.

Now that the Cavs' season has ended, the summer of potential big changes begins. There’s lots of speculation about whether LeBron James will stay in Cleveland when his contract is up July 1, and what the rest of the team will look like next season.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says in addition to James' next decision, the front office has to take a close look at the coach, Tyronn Lue.
