Cleveland City Council plans to take up the decriminalization of marijuana during this year’s session.

Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Blaine Griffin said during Monday’s committee meeting that he’d be looking at recent laws in Toledo and Dayton as models.

“I’m going to have several experts from that industry, as well as some internal partners from the city of Cleveland, that we are going to bring together to have the discussion around decriminalization of marijuana,” said Griffin.

Ohio Approves First Medical Marijuana Testing Lab

Ohio has approved the first testing lab for medical marijuana in the state.

Starting in January, people caught in Euclid with small amounts of marijuana will no longer be looking at six months in jail—and they have the podcast Serial to thank.

The city is reclassifying low-level marijuana possession as a minor misdemeanor, which carries a maximum fine of $150.

An environmental laboratory in Streetsboro is hoping to pass an inspection next week that will allow it to test medical marijuana.

Department of Commerce and State inspectors will visit North Coast Environmental Laboratory on December 19.

Spokesperson Joe Moorhead said the inspectors will be searching for everything the lab put in its application. If they fail, the lab can potentially lose its ability to achieve a medical marijuana license.

An Ohio physician and medial professor believes medical cannabis should be used to treat opioid addiction in a state that saw a record number of overdose deaths last year.

It's now legal for adults to smoke pot in Canada. But some Canadians have found themselves barred – possibly permanently – if they admit at the U.S. border that they have used marijuana.

Estevan, Saskatchewan, is just 10 miles north of the border with North Dakota. The town's mayor, Roy Ludwig, told the CBC that residents have been turned away at the border for admitting to marijuana use.

Ohioans sometime in the next two months will be able to buy and use marijuana products to treat nearly two dozen medical conditions after obtaining a recommendation from a physician. Here are a few things prospective patients should consider as the state's medical cannabis program gets rolling.

Starting Wednesday, the sale of recreational marijuana begins in Canada following a law passed over the summer.

The law says anyone in Canada over the age of 18 is allowed to possess marijuana, provided it's less than 30 grams — just over an ounce. Canadians can also grow up to four marijuana plants in their home and buy from a provincially regulated retailer.

Several large and small cultivators of marijuana for Ohio’s Medical Marijuana Program say they plan to be harvesting their products soon. But that doesn’t mean patients will be able to buy it anytime soon.

Stepping into the small vestibule, visitors are immediately struck by a slightly musty, slightly skunky odor that provides a redolent clue about what's happening there.

Franklin County Sheriff's deputies recently followed their noses and discovered a large amount of marijuana growing outside of a Prairie Township home. A 59-year-old man has been arrested.
