Ohio opened its deer-hunting season to hunters with guns this week, which means butchers like Jay Mosely of Mosely's Meat Market are working overtime.

Hunters decked out in bright orange started dotting Ohio fields and forests Monday, the first day of the state’s annual shotgun deer hunt.

The Akron Zoo welcomed a unique deer species to the park last month.

The birth of a Siberian Musk deer, which is still unnamed, is a first for the zoo.  

Spokeswoman Elena Bell said the species is special to this area.

“They’re not a species that is really represented in a lot of zoos," she said. "It’s not an animal that you would think of when you visit the zoo, like the Cleveland Zoo doesn’t have them, the Columbus Zoo, so it’s really cool to be able to experience these unique animals.”

Wintertime is a special time of year at Cafe Berlin, located just a few blocks from the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

This is when they roll out their menu of wild game, such as deer, wild boar, and quail. Regular customers have come to expect it. "They ask, weeks in advance, 'When does the wild game menu start? When does it start?' " says James Watson, one of the restaurant's chefs.

More than 500 deer have been euthanized over the past month in Ohio due to concerns over the spread of a disease.

The deer were owned by Daniel Yoder, who was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence related to an investigation into how chronic wasting disease came to his property and spread.
