All summer, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium been featured on National Geographic TV’s "Secrets of the Zoo." The series finale aired Sunday, Aug. 18.

The Columbus Zoo recently lost its Asian elephant calf to an infection.

At the end of last year, the Columbus Zoo faced the loss of three giraffes and an Asian elephant calf over the span of six weeks. The deaths were unconnected, and zoo officials say an external review committee found there was nothing they could have done to save the animals.

The Columbus Zoo is mourning the loss of one of its newest additions. The yet-to-be-named female Asian elephant calf was less than three weeks old when she unexpectedly died from an infection. 

National Geographic Wild Miniseries on the Columbus Zoo

Cable television channel National Geographic Wild is taking viewers behind-the-scenes at the Columbus Zoo. It premiered a six-hour miniseries in July on the zoo, aquarium and its 10,000-acre conservation center, The Wilds. 

The series, “Secrets of the Zoo,” is about the staff at the zoo and their close relationships with the animals. It premiered on July 29.

Leaders of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium say the country's oldest known gorilla in captivity, and the first in the world to be born in a zoo, has died. Colo was 60.

Four manatees rescued near Florida have arrived at the Columbus Zoo.
