It's a special edition of Snollygoster, Ohio's political podcast from WOSU Public Media, as hosts Mike Thompson and Steve Brown recap the state's primary election results. This was a jam-packed, but not particularly surprising, night, as voters decided candidates for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, treasurer and too many more to count.

Ohio’s U.S. Senate race this fall is expected to be one of the most expensive in the country and to have Donald Trump’s name all over it. As soon as Republican Congressman Jim Renacci was declared the winner of the GOP nomination last night, the battle against Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown began.

Former Ohio Attorney General and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Chief Rich Cordray will be running as the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in November after winning last night’s primary. His victory was resounding.

After a record-setting $10 million battle for the Republican nomination for governor, it was Attorney General Mike DeWine who came out on top with a double digit victory against Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor. It was a tough campaign that saw both sides sling personal attacks against the other. But both are now calling for unity.

Voters overwhelmingly approved Issue 1, which changes the way the state’s Congressional district map will be drawn in 2021 and beyond. It sets up new rules on splitting counties and increasing minority party input.

It's Election Day, and WOSU is following along as Ohio votes for a number of statewide primaries, including races for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House and several state offices, as well as a redistricting ballot issue.

Danny O'Connor has won the Democratic nominations for Congress in Ohio's 12th District, and will participate in both a special election in August and general election in November. Troy Balderson has claimed the Republican nomination for both, as well.
