Fears and uncertainty brought on by the coronavirus pandemic have many people saying things like “You’ve got this!” and “This too shall pass.”
Such rose-tinted expressions that focus solely on the positive and ignore the recipient’s pain are what mental health experts call dismissive, or toxic, positivity.
