Nine Columbus Restaurants And Bars Cited For Social Distancing Violations

In Columbus, nine bars and restaurants were cited for violating social distancing requirements after patios were allowed to reopen Friday.

Fiesta Bar & Grill, Diamond Ice Cream, Woodland’s Backyard, The Pub Out Back, Kitchen Social, Double Barrel Kitchen & Bar, Iron Grill Barbeque & Brew, Ugly Tuna 2, and Standard Hall were all issued warnings, according to Columbus Public Health.

Standard Hall in the Short North was the only business cited multiple times for violating the state’s guidelines.

According to a memorandum sent to the City Attorney's Office Monday, investigators visited Standard Hall on Friday night and found patrons were not properly social distancing, and were inside a part of the building they weren’t supposed to be. The health department then issued a warning.

"After a positive interaction with local police, fire, and health representatives – Standard Hall is implementing suggestions and guidance to ensure the continued safety of our guests/staff," the restaurant said in a Facebook post Saturday morning. "Moving forward we will be asking customers to stay seated at their tables and be cognizant of the distance between themselves and other groups."

On Saturday, Columbus Public Health received upwards of 10 complaints about Standard Hall. Investigators visited that night to find people not socially distancing in a long line outside, and more patrons in the inside patio that had not been approved.

A few hours later, the investigator returned with a Columbus Police officer and found the bar was still violating provisions.

"During the compliance investigation they confirmed social distancing issues on the patio and in the line to enter the facility," the document reads. "They also observed that people were sitting in the indoor patio area again and the facility was told to clear the indoor patio area once more."

The owner of Standard Hall refused to sign the citation.
