City Council Takes Up Columbus Crew Stadium Measure

Sep 9, 2019

Columbus City Council returns Monday night after a month off. Council members will consider a string of new borrowing proposals and the creation of a community authority charged with overseeing development near the proposed Crew SC stadium.

Among the items for consideration on a busy Monday agenda are a series of bond offerings. All told, City Council will consider taking on more than $400 million in debt. The borrowing comes from bond issues approved by voters in May of this year.

Council members will also take up the organization of a new Confluence Community Authority. The nine-member panel will oversee development at Confluence Village in the Arena District, including construction of a new stadium for the Columbus Crew and private development on the surrounding land.

Council members are responsible for selecting five of the authorities members and the development group will choose the other four.

City Council is lining up a public hearing September 16 on the creation of the new authority.
