The View From Pluto: LeBron Leaves With His Legacy Intact

Jul 4, 2018

Emotions have been running the gamut among Cavs fans since LeBron James announced he’s leaving Cleveland for the L.A. Lakers. But our sports commentator Terry Pluto says despite some of the anger and sadness, James’ legacy is intact.

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James is leaving his hometown team once again.

The four-time NBA most valuable player has signed a four-year, $154 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Quicken Loans Arena is in the middle of a $140 million renovation, about half financed by the public. The Cavaliers wanted to update the Q for the future—but now that future won’t include the star who carried the team to multiple NBA Finals.

LeBron James is leaving home for Los Angeles. James announced last night that he has agreed to a 4-year, $154 million contract with the Lakers. His management agency Klutch Sports Group announced the deal with a simple short release.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says he has been preparing for James' decision for quite sometime.

His agency Klutch Sports Group announced the move in a release on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the NBA's free agency market opened.

For the second time in his 15-year career, James will part with his home state team. In 2010, the free agent bolted to the Miami Heat to win two titles over four years, before returning to Cleveland.

LeBron James made the first move. Decision 3.0 is officially under way.

James told the Cleveland Cavaliers that he is not exercising his $35.6 million contract option for next season and will hit the free-agent market, two people familiar with the decision told the Associated Press.

Now that the Cavs' season has ended, the summer of potential big changes begins. There’s lots of speculation about whether LeBron James will stay in Cleveland when his contract is up July 1, and what the rest of the team will look like next season.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says in addition to James' next decision, the front office has to take a close look at the coach, Tyronn Lue.

The View From Pluto: The Cavs' Most Improbable Title Run Yet

May 30, 2018

The Cavs play game 1 of the NBA Finals Thursday night against a familiar foe – The Golden State Warriors. The two teams are playing for the title for the fourth consecutive year.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says this Cavs team is much different than the one that lost in the Finals last year. Most notably, the team successfully moved on from Kyrie Irving in a big trade that initially went bust.

Stop me if you've heard this one: The Golden State Warriors will play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the best-of-seven NBA Finals.

For the fourth year in a row, the Warriors and the Cavs will face one another.

The Cavs are in Boston tonight for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The series is tied 2-2, with both teams winning their home games.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says the Celtics are undefeated, 9-0, at TD Garden, while the Cavs have lost just once at the Q.

With a dominating 128-93 win in Game 4 last night, the Cavs are headed to the Eastern Conference Finals for the fourth straight year.

It was a grueling seven games, but the Cavs are moving on after narrowly defeating the Indiana Pacers on Sunday in the final game of the first round of the NBA Playoffs, 105-101.

"It was certainly the most interesting first round series I've ever seen," said WKSU commentator Terry Pluto. "I don't think LeBron James wants to go out losing his last game in Cleveland, playing poorly in a game seven."

James will be a free agent in July and rumors are swirling about another departure from Cleveland.

The View From Pluto: The Cavs' Character Is Put To The Test

The Cavs play a crucial game tonight in their first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers.  They’re in an unfamiliar spot this early in the playoffs, down 0-1 after being blown out on Sunday. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says it's a must-win game.

Journalist Laura Ingraham sought to rebuke the Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James for "talking politics" during a recent interview — something the Fox News host believes is out of bounds for an athlete.

Ingraham said she was not interested in the political advice from "someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball."
