An Ohio House committee has passed a bill that would make the state the third in the country to ban abortion after a Down Syndrome diagnosis has been made. Doctors who perform abortions after that point would be held liable and could lose their licenses to practice.

Ohio’s largest group representing abortion opponents is cheering news that two clinics that offered abortions in the Buckeye State have closed their doors.

Another fight over abortion rights is looming at the Statehouse. Lawmakers are expected to take up two bills that restrict abortions during the upcoming lame duck session. That brought supporters of legal abortion out to protest to try to convince lawmakers to scrap those bills.

A newly proposed ballot initiative filed with the Attorney General would begin the process of putting an issue on the ballot to ban all abortions in Ohio.
