Republican Mike DeWine and Democrat Richard Cordray went head-to-head in their first debate in the race for governor. The two traded jabs in what escalated into a heated debate over their records.

If you thought for a moment that the choice between Republican Mike DeWine and Democrat Richard Cordray for Ohio governor was a choice between Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum, get over it.

On Tuesday, the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association became the second statewide police union to endorse Democratic candidate Rich Cordray for governor. It's a major about-face: The union endorsed Republican Mike DeWine in the 2014 attorney general race.

Richard Cordray and Mike DeWine are preparing to square off in their first debate in the race for governor. The debate on September 19 in Dayton will be the first time in eight years that both candidates shared a stage to battle over the issues.

Former President Barack Obama campaigned for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray.

Cordray served in the Obama administration as the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

During his speech, Obama took shots at Republican leaders in Washington D.C., calling the nation's political system broken. 

“The Republicans won the House, they won the Senate. They’re still mad,” he said. “Which is interesting. So just remember when you hear about these folks bragging about this economic period, just remember when it started.”
