Urban Zen Integrative Therapy is used to help alleviate symptoms of illness such as pain, anxiety, and insomnia. More recently, it has been introduced in schools to help students learn how to regulate feelings of stress.

Today, we discuss Urban Zen. mindfulness, and their benefits.

The room is about the size of a large closet.  There's a table and a flower arrangement on the floor, a stool sitting against a wall, and one bench. No pictures hang on the walls.

Nestled inside Arps Hall on North High Street, the room is a pretty plain retreat - but a peaceful one.

A philanthropic foundation is offering to subsidize a “mindfulness” program for some Ohio schools.   The practice of daily meditation is already being used in some schools, and backers say the  simple bit of self-reflection has been improving behavior and test scores.

Studies have shown that mindfulness meditation can reduce stress and improve a person's health. Also, the difference between headaches and migraines, why we get them, and how to get rid of them. Then, a look at apitherapy, or "bee therapy," and its holistic approach to medicine.

Back in 2013, University of Oregon School of Music professor and researcher Dr. Frank Diaz asked 132 students to participate in a study which analyzed the affects of engaging in 15 minutes of, "mindful meditation," before listening to 10 minutes of music, opera specifically. The results showed a sort of natural behavioral modification that allowed the students to better focus on the music.

So for today's "Ohm" Monday, we are getting mindful with our music and our yoga mats.
