There is no official action scheduled in the Ohio House on Tuesday. Over the holiday weekend there was talk, but little change in the saga over who will be the Speaker till the end of the year.

Now, acting Speaker Kirk Schuring says he’s willing to stay on, while the representative with the most votes says "no deal."

This week marked the second in a row without a voting session in the Ohio House. All sessions were canceled because majority Republicans cannot decide on a leader to replace former House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger. He resigned in April and is embroiled in an FBI investigation involving his associations with payday lending lobbyists.

Update 7:30 am Tuesday

The Ohio House has canceled Tuesday's special session, which was just scheduled last week in hopes of electing a new speaker.

The Ohio House has canceled its sessions while the Republican caucus works behind the scenes to figure out who will replace Speaker Cliff Rosenberger. He resigned in April amid an FBI inquiry into his associations with lobbyists. Democrats and the Republican leader of the Ohio Senate say they are not going to step into the fight.

A day after Republicans gathered to figure out the next speaker of the Ohio House, there's still no word on who that might be. GOP state lawmakers met for hours at a downtown hotel on Tuesday but left without making a decision, cancelling a House session scheduled for Wednesday.

Ohio’s only statewide issue on the May 8 primary ballot nearly didn’t make it – though it’s been talked about for decades. There's a long history of the complicated Issue 1, which some activists call a historic effort to change the way the Ohio’s Congressional district map is created.

Though Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger announced on Tuesday that he would leave May 1, his resignation is now effective immediately.

But Rosenberger is still maintaining his innocence in the face of an FBI inquiry.
