The 2018 lame duck session of the Ohio General Assembly ended in a rare post-Christmas session that saw Republicans fail to muster enough votes to override a veto of the controversial so-called Heartbeat Bill.

The measure would have banned abortions when a fetal heartbeat is detected. Its prospects could change in the coming year, however, as a new governor takes office.
