Amazon has claimed a piece of prime Columbus real estate, releasing a proposal this week to open an Amazon Campus bookstore in the University District.
The Seattle-based online retailer plans to open a brick-and-mortar store near The Ohio State University's campus where students can pick up books or other merchandise they've ordered online, according to the City of Columbus’ University Area Review Board.
Amazon submitted plans to the board for a 900-square-foot space at the former location of UniversiTEEs T-shirt store, at 2114 North High Street. Students with Amazon Prime memberships can access their orders from self-service lockers or with help from an Amazon employee.
Amazon also requested 1,370 square feet of storage space.
The University Area Review Board will discuss the plans at a meeting on March 16. Plans say the permit should be issued March 30, and construction should begin April 3.
Amazon currently operates 14 college campus stores across the U.S. The first Amazon Locker store in Central Ohio opened last year at Polaris Fashion Place.
